The Black Bay 58 has become a favorite among watch enthusiasts—and now, this iconic model reaches a new milestone by earning one of the most prestigious certifications in the horological world: the Master Chronometer. This new edition, adorned in a striking deep burgundy hue, also presents with a five-link metal bracelet featuring the T-fit system for the first time.
The name “Black Bay 58” pays tribute to the legendary “Big Crown” diver's watch introduced in 1958, a timepiece that solidified TUDOR’s place in underwater watchmaking history with its 200-meter water resistance. Staying true to its roots, the new model retains the compact 39 mm case size of its vintage predecessor. A tribute to the past is also found in its dial design, drawing aesthetic inspiration from a rare, never-released Submariner 79190 prototype from the 1990s, which featured a similar burgundy dial. Today, that legacy lives on in a redesigned, modern Black Bay 58.
With its elegant 39 mm case and a unidirectional burgundy bezel marked by softly curved numerals, the Black Bay 58 stands out with timeless style. The seconds hand recalls the look of the early diving watches of the brand with a “lollipop” design, while the satin burgundy dial is softly radial brushed for a very subtle shine under direct light. Ergonomics have evolved as well, with a redesigned crown, reminiscent of the curves found on the crowns of the brand's historical technical watches.
This new Black Bay 58 isn't just about looks—it’s a technical marvel. Each watch is extensively tested to meet the Master Chronometer standards set by METAS, Switzerland’s Federal Institute of Metrology. These strict tests assess not just the movement but the entire watch for precision (with a daily tolerence of up to +5 seconds), resistance to magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss, 200 meters of water resistance, and a 65-hour power reserve. Earning this certification also requires the watch to be Swiss-made and equipped with a COSC-certified movement.
Versatility is key with the new Black Bay 58, which is available with a stainless steel three-link "rivet-style" bracelet, a more elaborate five-link bracelet, or a comfortable rubber strap. All options come with the T-fit rapid adjustment system, allowing for quick and easy resizing on the go.
TUDOR’s “Born To Dare” campaign, launched in 2017, reflects the brand’s adventurous spirit—rooted both in its history and present-day innovation. Worn by individuals who conquer land, sea, air, and ice, these watches are built for extreme conditions. True to founder Hans Wilsdorf’s vision, TUDOR continues to create timepieces that stand up to the challenges of daring lives everywhere.
